I know that parenting isn't really for cowards, it actually takes extreme bravery to properly raise a child. But then again, I think of the Cowardly Lion in the Wizard of Oz, he was afraid to do anything, but in the end, that's what made Him a Hero.
When you realize that you don't know what you're doing as a parent, then fear can set it. That is the best place to be. Yes, it is. That's when you rely on God to help you. We all know people who rely on their parents' skills to raise their own children. They think they have all the answers but the answers are wrong for their children. So they just do more of the same hoping to get a different result.
When I had my first child, I was frightened. I wanted to run away because I thought there was no way I knew how to raise this baby. Instead, the first thing I did was go to God and give her to Him. I told Him to raise her for me and I would be His helper. She is now 17 years old and loves the Lord with all her heart. My two other daughters are well on their way to being all they can be in God also.
There were tough times when I wanted to solve things in my flesh. (And I did - it turned out badly) There were wonderful times that I should have enjoyed but took for granted. I'm not perfect, actually, like Gideon, I am still a coward. But when God speaks to me concerning my children, I'm suddenly brave and able to do the impossible for that moment. Ah - the adventure called Parenting. There's nothing else like it.
So this is my first blog about being a parent. Please stay tuned for more ideas, advice, wisdom, etc. Just know that it's not me who types, but Christ in Me, the Hope of Glorious Parenting ; )
